Officer Bailey Hickman officially took the oath of office, stepping into his new role as Sergeant. Surrounded by colleagues, family, and community members, Sergeant Hickman’s promotion highlights his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to serving West Jefferson.
A Career Built on Service and LeadershipBefore joining the police department, Sergeant Hickman served with distinction in the United States Army as a Fire Support Specialist/Forward Observer. He was part of the 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3-16 Field Artillery (1ST CAV, 2ABCT, 3-16 FA, 1-5 FiST PLT). This military experience instilled in him the values of discipline, teamwork, and mission-focused leadership, which continue to guide his work in law enforcement. Since beginning his career with the West Jefferson Police Department, Sergeant Hickman has gone above and beyond in his duties. Not only is he a certified Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) jujitsu trainer, providing critical defensive tactics training to the department, but he also oversees the auxiliary program, mentoring new officers and fostering a culture of growth and excellence. A Ceremony to CelebrateThe promotion ceremony was a touching moment for Sergeant Hickman and his family. His wife, 2nd Lieutenant Jena Hickman, an Officer with the U.S. Army, had the honor of pinning his sergeant chevrons during the event—a meaningful symbol of shared dedication to service. As Sergeant, Hickman will take on the critical role of supervising the night shift officers, where his strong leadership and vision will continue to enhance the department’s mission to protect and serve the community.
