By Hope Smith, MCBDD June 2025 marked the third annual Tiger Cub Camp! Tiger Cub Camp are two week-long day camp for children we serve — one for ages 3-5 and another week for children ages 6-8. This year was our largest turn out with 11 children attending the first week and 13 children attending the second week. One of the biggest highlights of our camp is having the availability to use Fairhaven School and the fenced in playground. This year we had goats brought in by Wendy Hardy owner of 3x H Ranchette and a bunny brought in by Zavier Mayabb from Madison Plains FFA. Sam Yoder, a local farmer, brought in different tractors for the kiddos to play on and explore. We also had water fun, nature hunts, crafts, bike riding, all while skill building and working on individual goals and development with the kids. We are so fortunate to have the best staff during the camps: Brooke Zimmer (LHS classroom paraprofessional), Morgan McCune (LES 1st grade teacher), Jennifer Jordan (LES classroom paraprofessional) and Kris Dennen (WJHS paraprofessional). The camp is planned and coordinated by MCBDD staff Kathleen Hatem and Hope Smith. Denise Zerkle, RN (MCBDD Health Services Coordinator) is also present for the entirety of the camps as a support.
Day camps are typically offered to children once they reach age 8, are held out of Madison County, and can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars per week. We are proud to offer this camp to families we serve for free! We are so thankful for the support from our Family Support Director, Carol Ansel, our Superintendent, Susan Thompson and our Madison County Board of DD Board Members. We are also so thankful for the generous donations and support received from families and their loved ones, as well as various community organizations.
