Ohio State University to Host "How to Lose Less" Multi-Session Program for Farmers

Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences is launching a free educational program titled “How to Lose Less,” designed to help farmers optimize budgets, improve

record-keeping, and explore innovative agricultural practices. This five-session program will be offered both in-person and virtually, with in-person sessions held at Beck’s Hybrids, 720 US Highway, London, Ohio.

The program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for each session. Participants opting for the virtual sessions will receive a link via email the day before the event.

Program Schedule:

• Session 1: Budget Bootcamp

  Learn enterprise budget strategies and cost control with Barry Ward, and explore methods to manage fixed costs with Eric Richer.
• Session 2: On the Record
  🗓️ Wednesday, January 8
  Discover record-keeping strategies with Bruce Clevenger and analyze profit-driving categories for Ohio farmers with Clint Schroeder.
• Session 3: In the Field
  🗓️ Tuesday, January 21
  Explore nutrient management, weed control strategies, and product evaluation with Amanda Douridas and Alyssa Essman.
• Session 4: Life, Death, and Taxes
  🗓️ Tuesday, February 4
  Gain insights into farm tax updates and the implications of the sunsetting 2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act with David Marrison and Barry Ward.
• Session 5: Organic and Alternative Crops
  🗓️ Tuesday, February 18
  Delve into organic grain transitions and alternatives to traditional crops with Eric Richer and Osler Ortez.
