The garden is more than just a green space — it’s a youth-led initiative designed to address pressing issues facing Madison County residents, from food insecurity to mental health challenges. MCPYA, a group of students from across the county, created the garden project as a way to foster community, educate peers, and promote both physical and emotional wellness.
A Mission Rooted in Health and Hope The goals of the Community Unity Garden are twofold:
“This garden belongs to the community,” said MCPYA organizer Belon Hill. “It’s about more than growing vegetables — it’s about growing stronger relationships, healthier habits, and a shared sense of purpose.” How to Get Involved MCPYA is currently seeking volunteers, sponsors, and community partners. Anyone interested in contributing time, supplies, or monetary donations is encouraged to contact Belon Hill at [email protected] or Larry Newton at [email protected]. In-kind or financial supporters will be recognized with their name on a commemorative plaque displayed in the garden and featured on promotional materials throughout the growing season.
