Honoring Susie Taylor’s Lifetime of Advocacy Longtime board member Susie Taylor was presented with the Dorothy Allison Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring her unwavering advocacy and resilience following the loss of her son, Evan. Through her monthly column in The Madison Express, Susie continues to help others navigate grief while championing the needs of individuals with disabilities. Her compassion and strength have made a lasting impact on the MCBDD community. Bowling Achievements and High Scores MCBDD athletes had a strong showing at a recent bowling tournament in Washington Court House. Numerous participants placed in the top three, with John Zeeck earning the Men’s High Score of the event. Their achievements demonstrate the fun and fulfillment that come from inclusive recreation and friendly competition. Annual Appreciation Awards Announced MCBDD also recognized several individuals and partners for their dedication and service:
Volleyball for Awareness In honor of Autism Awareness Month, the Madison County Tigers once again faced off against London’s First Responders in an annual volleyball match held at London High School. The event highlighted both community engagement and advocacy. A Reflection on Life and Loss In a moving piece titled “Gathering Around the Bones,” Susie Taylor reflected on a recent Celebration of Life event. Drawing parallels between human grief and the way elephants mourn, she described how the ceremony became a space to remember and honor those who have passed. Her words offer comfort and a sense of shared experience to those walking through grief. Staff Development and Recognition MCBDD staff recently toured Recreation Unlimited, a year-round camp for individuals with disabilities. The agency also celebrated long-serving employees John Chesser (23 years) and Lincoln Comer (24 years), recognizing their ongoing dedication. Looking Ahead The next MCBDD Board Meeting will be held on May 15 at 4:00 p.m. at the agency’s administrative office.
