Madison County Local Food Council Launches National Nutrition Month Donation Campaign

In celebration of National Nutrition Month this March, the Madison County Local Food Council is launching a donation campaign to support individuals and families in need. The campaign aims to collect food and essential cooking supplies, which will be distributed to MCPH WIC and local food pantries throughout Madison County.

Campaign Details
The donation drive will run throughout March 2025, with distribution of collected items beginning in April 2025. The initiative seeks to provide healthier food options and the necessary resources for food preparation to those who may not have access to them.
​Donation Collection Sites
Community members can contribute by dropping off donations at various collection sites, including:
  • Madison County Public Health
  • Madison County OSU Extension
  • Department of Job and Family Services
  • Mt. Sterling Community Center
  • Madison Health (with donation boxes at G.C. Diner)
  • London High, Middle, and Elementary Schools (for students during school hours)
  • Madison County Chamber of Commerce
  • London Public Library
  • Plain City Municipal Building
  • West Jefferson City Hall
  • Courthouse

​What to Donate?
The campaign is requesting donations of both food and cooking supplies. Suggested contributions include:

Cooking Supplies:
  • Can openers, colanders, cutting boards, and knife sets
  • Small appliances such as microwaves, crock pots, and blenders
  • Baking sheets, mixing bowls, spatulas, and utensils
  • Plastic storage containers and zipper bags

Food Items:
  • Fruits & Vegetables: Canned and dried fruits, low-sodium canned vegetables, and canned soup
  • Grains: Brown or white rice, quinoa, whole grain pasta, pasta sauce (low sodium), whole wheat flour, and rolled oats
  • Meat, Beans, & Nuts: Canned chicken, canned tuna, dried or canned beans, unsalted nuts, peanut butter, and other nut butters
  • Seasonings & Oils: Garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, cinnamon, baking powder, vanilla extract, honey, and olive or canola oil
  • Dairy: Shelf-stable milk and milk substitutes
