Madison County Board of DD Celebrates Champions, Creativity, and Community in June Newsletter

The June 2025 edition of The Madison Express, the monthly newsletter of the Madison County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD), is packed with stories of achievement, inspiration, and community pride.

Leading the headlines is the Madison County Special Olympics Unified Volleyball Team, who claimed gold at the USAV Open Championships in Denver, Colorado. After a runner-up finish in 2024, the Tigers swept the Kay Center Georgia Tigers in the finals to earn the national title. Athletes and partners represented Madison County with excellence on and off the court, capping 

their trip with sightseeing adventures and support from local sponsors.

The newsletter also recaps the May 28th Cabaret and Art Show, where individuals supported by MCBDD showcased their talents before a capacity crowd. Photos from the event highlight the creativity and joy that filled the evening.

A thoughtful feature titled “Grief is a Quilt” by Susie Taylor offers a powerful metaphor on processing loss. It encourages readers to see grief as a journey of piecing together memories and meaning—slow, unique, and deeply personal.

In recognition of staff dedication, MCBDD celebrates Bobbie Sollars for seven years of service and extends birthday wishes to Mike Bentley, Shauna Good, and Susie Taylor.

Looking ahead, the community is invited to cheer on local athletes during the Law Enforcement Torch Run on Friday, June 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Cowling Park. The event will send off Madison County’s Special Olympians as they travel to Columbus for the Summer Games, competing in track & field, bocce, and powerlifting.
