During the competition, participants completed several components, including a written exam, equipment identification, and math problems related to food science. Members were also evaluated on general food management practices and participated in a triangle test, which required identifying a food product that differed from others based on brand or formulation. In addition, teams completed a product development activity, designing a food product and explaining all aspects involved, such as production, safety, and marketing.
London FFA was represented at the district contest by Hailey Ballah, Alaina Tate, Kyler Gillespie, and Lane Cremeens. The team worked collaboratively throughout the event and earned a 6th-place finish overall. The Food Science Career Development Event supports London FFA’s mission of preparing members for careers in agriculture and food-related industries by developing technical knowledge, leadership, and critical thinking skills.
