Following the Treaty of Greenville in 1795, which concluded the Indian Wars in the Ohio Country, Alder chose to return to the white community. He reunited with his biological family in Virginia and later returned to Ohio with his wife, Mary Blont. Settling along Big Darby Creek, Alder became the first white settler in Madison County. His original cabin, constructed during this period, has been preserved and is now displayed at the Madison County Historical Society Museum in London, Ohio.
Alder's unique life experience positioned him as a bridge between Native American and settler cultures. He often served as an interpreter and advocate, fostering understanding between the two communities. His legacy endures in the region, with institutions like the Jonathan Alder Local School District in Plain City bearing his name, reflecting his lasting impact on the community.
