The Village of Plain City is excited to announce that construction has officially begun on the highly anticipated Heritage Trail Trailhead project, located on State Route 161, just south of Darby Station. Once completed, this new recreational space will feature a parking area, a hiking trail loop, and a shelter house for public use, providing visitors with a serene spot to explore the natural beauty of the area.
The 25-acre property, which was donated to the Village in 2023 by M/I Homes of Central Ohio, offers stunning views of the Big Darby Creek, a State and National Scenic River. Visitors will soon be able to enjoy the scenic surroundings while hiking and utilizing the new amenities. The Heritage Trail Trailhead project is part of Plain City’s broader plan to extend the Heritage Trail to the Village and beyond, making it a key connection point for trail users. The project has received partial funding through the State of Ohio Capital Improvement Program, and construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Oheil Site Solutions is providing the construction services. The Village is committed to protecting and preserving the land surrounding Big Darby Creek while offering new recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. This project is a significant step in enhancing the community’s access to outdoor spaces and promoting environmental conservation. Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses, and get ready to explore the new Heritage Trail Trailhead by the end of the year! Not receiving our content regularly?
