Invasive Species Control Workshop Set for October 2 in Madison County

Madison County residents are invited to attend a hands-on workshop focused on identifying and controlling invasive species. The event will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5:00–6:00 p.m. at the Gwynne Conservation Area, 690 Arbuckle Rd NW, London, OH 43140.

Hosted by OSU Extension in partnership with the Madison Soil and Water Conservation District, the workshop will cover the most current invasive plants and insects impacting Ohio’s landscapes. Attendees will learn effective methods to manage these species and protect natural ecosystems.

Village of Plain City to Acquire Former RANCO Property from Schneider Electric for Future Recreational Use

The Village of Plain City is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Schneider Electric to acquire the former RANCO property, a 73-acre site located Village’s northern entrance along US Route 42. After decades of environmental remediation, the Ohio EPA has cleared the industrial site, which will now be transferred from Schneider Electric to the Village at no cost to taxpayers for future recreational development.

Madison County Resident Competes in National “Face of Halloween” Contest to Benefit Children’s Charity

Madison County’s own Justin Baphomet "Boo" Scott, is competing in Colossal’s nationwide Face of Halloween contest, which raises funds and awareness for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The foundation delivers joy and comfort to seriously ill children and their families through programs such as toy deliveries, gaming, hospital wear, and other supportive services.

​Scott is one of thousands of contestants across the country vying for the title. While the competition includes a cash prize, Scott emphasizes that his main goal is to support Starlight Children’s Foundation and shine a light on the needs of children who face long hospital stays.

Madison County Seeking Volunteer Drivers to Support Community Transportation Needs

Safe and dependable drivers are needed in Madison County to help neighbors who lack access to reliable transportation. Through a volunteer driver program funded in part by the Ohio Department of Transportation, community members can step forward to make a difference in the lives of others.

​Volunteer drivers help individuals reach medical appointments, pick up essential items, and access employment opportunities. This service is especially critical for residents who cannot drive themselves and would otherwise face barriers to meeting daily needs.
An informational session will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 12:00–12:30 p.m. at the London Public Library’s Hartley Meeting Room, 20 E. First Street, London
Madison County Volunteer Driver.

Attendance is encouraged for those interested in learning more, but it is not required to volunteer.

Tolles Career & Technical Center Earns Top Marks on Ohio Report Card

PLAIN CITY, OHIO (September 17, 2025) — Tolles Career & Technical Center has earned an overall 5-star rating on the Ohio Department of Education’s 2025 School District Report Cards, marking a major achievement for the school and its community. The career-technical district not only secured the top overall rating but also met all nine federal indicators with 100 percent compliance.

Tolles received 5-star ratings in three critical categories:
  • Career & Post-Secondary Readiness – Posting an impressive 110.4 percent performance, significantly above state standards.
  • Graduation Rate – With 97.8 percent of students graduating in four years and 98.7 percent in five years, both well above state benchmarks.
  • Post-Program Outcomes – Achieving a 92.2 percent placement rate, with 65 percent of students continuing to higher education and a 96 percent status-known rate, far surpassing state expectations.

The school also earned a 4-star rating in Achievement, exceeding state standards in both academic and technical performance. Tolles students reached an 86.7 percent technical skill attainment rate and a 71.8 percent performance index.

Superintendent Dr. Todd Hoadley credited the district’s success to the efforts of the school community.

“This report reflects the dedication of our students, faculty and staff,” Hoadley said. “It shows that Tolles students are graduating prepared for college, career and life”.

Founded in 1971 and named after its first superintendent, Harry E. Tolles, the center currently serves more than 1,300 students from seven partner districts: Dublin, Fairbanks, Hilliard, Jonathan Alder, London, Madison-Plains, and Jefferson Local. In addition to high school programs, Tolles offers adult and continuing education in fields such as public safety, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing. With a long-standing graduation rate of 95 percent and a 97 percent placement rate, Tolles continues its 50-year mission of preparing learners for college, careers, and life.

Plain City, OH — September 15, 2025 — Tolles Career & Technical Center will host the Built On Skills Job Matching Expo on Tuesday, September 23, from 5–7 p.m., bringing together students, jobseekers, and community members to explore training opportunities, meet employers, and discover pathways to in-demand careers.
The event is presented in partnership with Roadtrip Nation, Aspyr, and OhioMeansJobs, and features interactive experiences that make career exploration engaging and hands-on.
Highlights include:
  • Roadtrip Nation’s “Built On Skills” presentation in the Tolles auditorium, featuring inspiring career stories and workforce insights.
  • Job-matching opportunities with OhioMeansJobs representatives.
  • Interactive tech demonstrations across career fields, plus the JoMo Virtual Reality Experience.
